When a long capacitor charged to +8v is shorted at both ends,

the mid point alternates between +8v, -8v, +8v, -8v ….

Uncompromising, indefatigable pursuit of truth, then, is the hallmark that distinguishes science from the charlatan. It constitutes the indispensible ethic of modern science. (Max Born) – and of course Chris Spargo.

Wikipedia says Born said exactly the opposite. Double check your facts, Catt! Or Wikipedia? 21.11.2019

Chris,

By pressing me for access to the politics of CERN breaking rank and saying a capacitor does not have a stationary electric field, you risk sullying your reputation as, not a dedicated scientist, putting aside career and pursuing scientific advance. The true scientist will of course investigate, and comment on, the Wakefield 3 picture I have supplied, rather than on what CERN may or may not have said. That is, for you and me, scientific advance is more important than politics and career.

You provided the very important added idea that I might be lying (which idea did not occur to me), and that CERN did not now say what was outside the canon. The approach of trying to find out how and whether CERN now suggests the revolutionary idea that a charged capacitor does not have a stationary electric field rather than enthusiastically investigating the Wakefield 3 picture would not be the move of a scientist, but that of a full blooded careerist, which you are not.

“I am their leader; I must follow them.” CERN and LIGO have to keep the money flowing (one billion per year, half a million for each member of staff, dwarfing the IET) by making new discoveries. There is the risk that they will move downmarket from big bang, gravity waves and the like, ousting the IEEE/IET by moving closer to the source of their money, the taxpayer, by meddling in fundamentals, like electromagnetic theory. A careerist has to watch for any change in the dogma of “Modern Physics” so as to not get caught out saying the wrong thing. Also, as a senior member of the IET, you need to warn them if there is a threat that the party line could have to change to keep up with CERN/LIGO. CERN cannot be allowed to get ahead of IET over the IET and IEEE’s bread and butter, electromagnetic theory. http://www.ivorcatt.co.uk/x84swak.pdf ; [ http://www.ivorcatt.co.uk/x854w3.pdf ] . I think I sent you the actual picture, but cannot send it to you again because of computer troubles [now solved]. That will come later. However, you can of course take my word that the actual pictures are the same as my prediction at x84swak. Charge a cable to 8v. Short at one end. The cable then goes into a number of states; all 8v, all of it 0v, all of it -8v, then later back to all of it 8v, and all over again. Even when discharging from +8v into a 20 ohm resistor, the cable surprisingly passes through a negative stage. Imagine a capacitor, while discharging (exponential?) passing through negative! Surely CERN will not meddle with that! Do they not realise the implications? These Wakefield pictures do too much damage to careers and reputations. http://www.ivorcatt.co.uk/x6611.htm

Wakefield 1 is bad enough, and W3 must be blocked for another decade or two. http://www.ivorcatt.co.uk/x8b1w3.JPG . Now W4! http://www.ivorcatt.co.uk/x85jalex1.pdf . Now W4. An 8v discharging capacitor vacillating between +8v, -8v, +8v, -8v, …. ? Highly heretical.  http://www.ivorcatt.co.uk/x85qalex0.htm http://www.ivorcatt.co.uk/x85jalex1.pdf

As a true scientist, you are not concerned with such things, and will be anxious to investigate, and comment on, the Wakefield 3 picture. The same goes for the FIEEE and FIET men Alex Yakovlev and Tony Davies. I anxiously look forward to the written comment from each of you, if only the remark that your skills do not extend to interpreting the x84swak picture, in which case sending me to the expert who is able to comment. You know who they are, because you are severally FIEEE etc.

Let us have a link to the paper by your reported CERN man?

Fascinating.

Supported by their members, who do not want the disruption caused by major scientific advance, the IEEE and IET do not publish major advances, or even rather minor ones like the fact that a capacitor does not have a self resonant frequency, or that a capacitor is a transmission line.

At the other pole, the CERN scam has gobbled up perhaps $20,000,000,000 , and needs to have something to show for it beyond "gravity waves" [and suchlike,,e.g. Higgd Boson]

Caught in the middle are the IEEE and IET, who have to stabilise the knowledge base. They block all of Catt's work.

A CERN man, "FN", has stolen  some important Catt work, the assertion that a charged capacitor does not have a stationary electric field. The thief is in the same issue as Catt in an unrefereed journal, in which in another issue of the journal the unrefereed idea was promoted by Catt decades ago. Now CERN steals it to help justify their money spend. Obviously Professor Tony Davies  FIET, Life Fellow IEEE, FRI, MBCS, CEng and Professor Alex Yakovlev (similar, FIEEE etc. etc.) unwittingly connive in this plagiarism. By their inaction they get themselves into deep water. twixt the devil (IEEE members) and CERN. Tony and Alex need to be told that they help CERN to keep their torrent of money flowing.

I have almost set up this experiment (a length  of RG59 coax, 4x measurements along length using a 100MHz tektronix digital 4 channel scope, shorting via a momentary push to make switch) and plan to perform it next week. I will post online in due course.

I did manage to upload this thing after all. Catt, and now CERN, find that a supposedly steady charged capacitor with electric field between the plates is not steady at all. All 14 year old children round the world are being taught what is false. Otherwise, please explain the picture within the framework of classical electromagnetism, with its stationary electric field.

We are driving towards the principle that

Energy (current) E x H cannot stand still; it can only travel at the speed of light.

Any apparently steady field is a combination of two energy currents travelling in opposite directions at the speed of light.
