Dear Chris,

I find the present situation even more extraordinary than usual.

You have said that there is nothing fundamentally wrong with classical electromagnetism. You have been joint guest editor with Professor Alex Yakovlev, and together you published three articles in the Royal Society phil trans A. Alex’s article contained seven heresies, any one of which destroys classical electromagnetism.

This kind of lacuna should have been identified by scientists decades ago - http://www.ivorcatt.co.uk/x2cm.htm . I don’t see how careerists, trying to keep within the canon, have managed to cover their tracks for so many decades in the face of the obvious.

The present situation is unprecedented in 200 years.

Today, on my 83^rd birthday, I write to you.

I owe much to Alex. He invited me up to Newcastle and filmed my and Dave’s 4 hour lectures. He has kept it on the www.

Now Alex slipped 7 heresies into the top science journal in the top science institute.

It is important to me that he should not suffer unnecessarily as a result. I shall do my best to protect him. He came from one snake pit, Leningrad, to another, Academia. I only recently recognised it as a snake pit, following Academia’s attacks on me five or six years ago – “Bizarre”, “doesn’t understand electromagnetism”, and so on.

I don’t understand fully Alex’s relationship with Spargo, so I am working in the dark. I have never met Spargo.

Tony Davies has shown his true colours in the last day or two. Shocking.

Science is truly in crisis, as will be obvious to everyone in a decade or two – when I am dead.
