Is this Theory of Flight ?

Theory of Lift in a Wind Tunnel

MIT on Theory of Lift in a wind Tunnel

On a little reflection (which took me 50 years!), Bernouilli should

only be called “Theory of Lift in a Wind Tunnel”, not “Theory of Flight”.

In flight, the air has no momentum. The model does not model reality.

The Emperor got it wrong. However, the Newton approach survives.

Earlier writings

Garrick Mound, 68, is a volunteer guide for the Science Museum. He travels up from Somerset to do this. He is Geology (oil) and (I think) Biology.

Professor Jack Dinsdale, 78, was with me doing Engineering in Cambridge, and in my college Trinity.

I lost contact with all other fellow scholars, and more or less lost contact with Jack.

Garrick was the guide for me around the science museum, and I lectured him as much as he lectured me, for 90 minutes! It was as if a tsunami hit him.

Because of the RAF connection, Garrick showed me lots of planes. This got me back to thinking of  Theory of  Flight. I felt such an idiot when 20 years ago I realised I had been sold a pup, Bernouilli, when I stumbled on the Newton theory. Although the Science Museum is History of Science, not "Science", Garrick agreed that history of theory of flight could play its part. The Smithsonian has History of theory of Flight, and Garrick said he would suggest adding it in the Science Museum.

I called Jack, and he confirmed my memory of what we were taught in Cambridge - Bernouilli. He said years later he asked students how planes could fly upside down. He also confirmed in 1957 we were shown the pitot tube with lower pressure when the liquid travelled faster.

I find that today MIT still teach Bernouilli, no Newton.

10 or 15 years ago I found the new theory, Newton's Second Law, on the www. It is now removed. 20 years ago the Smithsonian gave both theories, Bernouilli and Newton, hedging their bets.

The next stage is to realise that Bernouilli and Newton are theory of lift in a wind tunnel, not theory of flight. In the case of flight, the air is stationary. I thought I had just thought of it, but then I found it on my website 10 years or so ago. http://www.ivorcatt.com/2606b.htm . The Newton Americans still have the air flowing from left to right.

It is extraordinary that all "experts" have confused the wind tunnel case with theory of flight for so long. No wonder the electromagnetic theory of such people is such a silly mess.
